Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to be a programmer to take part?
No, there’s always plenty for everyone to do, no matter their experience, background, or skills. And while most projects are code-based, it’s not a requirement. A team could produce a white paper, tutorial, poster, website, or dataset instead of an app or library.
Do I need to sign up for the conference as well?
No.
Is the hackathon really free?
Yes.
Do I need to bring anything?
You probably want to bring a laptop, that’s all. And you don’t need a sleeping bag, it’s not that kind of hackathon.
Is there a dataset I can use?
We are not providing any data for the event, but there are open datasets on a variety of topics. If you’re not sure where to look, get in touch with mtha@equinor.com and we’ll help you find what you need.
Can I show up on my own or do I need to find a team?
You can absolutely show up on your own, and most people do. The first hour or two of the event will be dedicated to establishing projects and teams. Bring a friend!
Are the projects already defined, or can I cook up my own?
The projects are not defined until the start of the event. If you have an idea in mind, please be ready to pitch it to the rest of the group. We’ll help you find others to work on your idea.
